Month of Scares

The crunch of the autumn leaf under your foot on a cool evening can only mean one thing, October is here. It’s the time of the year for scary Halloween spirit, dark nights, and warm cups of coffee for the cooler weather. During this festive month, Pointers have many things to look forward to both on campus and in the community such as Fright Night, The Haunted Trails and Hotel, as well as Scream Zone.

Fright Night was not a play you would expect from the theatre kids. It was a haunted house. Different areas of the PAC, as well as room 509 and 510 were alive with dark energy throughout the evening. New to Fright Night this year were dance routines from our recently “deceased” Universal Motion Dance Company zombie crew which added to the creepy vibe. With this level of Halloween hijinks the event was not recommended for young children, but everyone was welcomed with decaying arms.

In addition to our own Pointer Halloween celebrations, our community is filled with many fun-spirited events. One such event is the Haunted Trails at Balboa Park. “Personally, I like the haunted trails the best, because it’s outside,” Greg Defatta, co-owner of the Haunted Hotel franchise says. Preparing for the scream-tastic event takes a lot of diligence and hard work.  Defatta says, “September is the most stressful time since each year, all of the designs change about 50-70%.” So even if you’ve been before, it’s like a whole new experience.

With plenty of spooky characters sure to get your skin crawling, screams guaranteed to make the hairs on your neck stand up straight and spine tingling paths of horror the Haunted Hotel attractions will be open through October 31st until 11 p.m. There’s only one night left in October, so go make it count!
