“And Be a Sister to Every Girl Scout”
“I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.” -Girl Scout Law.
Girl Scouts is an organization that is dedicated to making the world a better place. It is known for helping girls to develop important life skills, create a sisterhood, and encourage a strong relationship with their mothers. It also raises awareness for world issues like energy saving, recycling, and reducing waste. Dana Harju, a junior at Point Loma High School and a Senior Girl Scout, said, “Being a Girl Scout means being a part of the community, the Girl Scout community.” Girls can join the organization from the age of 5 to 18. Their troops become as tight as a knot and they learn to become more than just a group of girls, but a family.
Selling cookies to raise money for their troops and raise funds to provide cookies for those overseas working in the military is one of the things Girls Scouts are best known for. Cookies are sold all around the United States and even in Puerto Rico. Even though the cookies change year to year their popularity does not. The old favorites continue to dominate while some new ones are becoming more popular each day. The Girl Scout Cookies of 2012 are, Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Thanks-a-lots, Dulce de Leches, Lemonades, Thank you Berry Much’s, Shout Outs, and Savannah Smiles. According to a random survey of PL students, Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Samoas are the best.
